Rock Rapids Municipal Utilities operates and maintains the Water Treatment Plant and water transmission lines within the city limits. RRMU is responsible for water transmission lines up to the curbstop. The lines from the curbstop to the house are the responsibility of the homeowner to maintain and repair.
RRMU urges everyone to practice water conservation by using good stewardship practices, such as:
- turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving
- take a shorter shower
- only run your washing machine and dishwasher when full
- check for leaky faucets, pipes and toilets
- keep a pitcher of water in the refrigerator for drinking
Lawn watering is allowed, but please refrain from watering during the heat of the day. During periods of drought or high heat, we may restrict the hours for watering to between 8 PM to 8 AM.
Rock Rapids Municipal Utilities is a member of the Lewis and Clark Regional Water System. This partnership will provide a long-term quality water supply for our community.
The Lewis & Clark water enters Iowa near the state line on Dove Avenue. The water travels through 10" water mains until it reaches our Water Treatment Plant, where it is intermingled with the water we pump from groundwater wells. It then flows into the water mains for distribution to our customers.
